BART, Earthquake Safety Program – Hayward Yard and Shop Seismic Retrofit Project, Construction Inspection Services
Hayward Yard retrofit construction project is one of the structure upgrade projects of the Yard Shops and Miscellaneous Structures portion of the BART Earthquake Safety Program (ESP). The project scope of retrofitting the main shop and yard tower includes:
- Enlargement of existing footing with drill and bond dowels, rebar installation, and concrete placement
- Relocation of existing utilities at the footing area
- CIDH installation and erection of a structural steel around the building as an exoskeleton
- Welding of the structural steel
- Replacement of existing windows, and installation of a new security fence
AMC's responsibilities:
AMC provided a Lead Inspector to support the Resident Engineer of the project. The Lead Inspector performed field inspection and office engineer tasks including:
- Monitoring of safety conditions and quality assurance
- Providing project oversight, quality assurance, and visual inspection
- Monitoring contractor’s work in accordance with the contract plans and specifications
- Documenting daily reports in Wong CMS, BART’s web-based construction management administration software
- Acting as a liaison between the Yard and Shops personnel and the project team members
